For some this is a time of great joy and satisfaction. They got the grades they were hoping for and are getting excited for the journey ahead, moving away from home for the first time, going to university.
However, for many this is not the reality. Perhaps the grades were not what had been predicted or hoped for. Perhaps they aren’t sufficient to get into the university or course of their choice. Plans made in hope and expectation are now falling apart.
It leaves many with the question – what now?
There are many options. Courses and exams can be retaken. Jobs can be found to provide income and further training. A host of gap year courses on offer.
I want to suggest one more option. DNA Leadership Training.
DNA is a churched based discipleship and leadership training year. Sounds complicated but in essence this means that for 11 months (October to August) a trainee with DNA would be based in a church, often their own, to serve the church and receive training and mentoring through DNA.
Whilst academically speaking this is not a degree, DNA is accredited so can count towards qualifications in the future and also doesn’t appear on your CV as if you took a year off!
DNA makes an excellent foundation and springboard towards both further education and entering the workplace. On DNA you will be stretched intellectually through the teaching sessions and personal study and you will be stretched in your faith, gifting and character through serving both with DNA and in your church setting.
DNA’s highest priority is your personal development, primarily the development of your relationship with God, your character and your understanding of yourself.
There is no limit as to what doing DNA can open for you in the future. Our previous trainees have gone on to work and serve in every type of workplace, both within the church and outwith. Some go on to work not just within the UK but in nations across the world, some in ‘normal’ jobs and some in specific cross cultural mission.
If you love Jesus and want your life to make a difference for him let me encourage you to seriously consider DNA as a real option for you at this moment in time. Your life may not be working out exactly as you planned but he has good things planned for your future and DNA may well be a significant part of you finding out what he has in store.
